Miastopracownia Conducts Workshops in Nairobi: Continuing an Educational Project

Researchers and architects from the Miastopracownia team (Dominika Janicka, Barbara Nawrocka, and Dominika Wilczyńska) conducted another series of workshops with children in Mukuru, an informal settlement in Nairobi. This initiative continues a process they began a year earlier, fostering creative engagement and community-driven design.

During the workshops, children designed playgrounds and specific installations, sketching their ideas and building physical models. These initial concepts were later transformed into 3D models by architecture students from Kielce, Poland, under the guidance of Dominika Janicka. In this way, an educational cycle has been developed where ideas born in Kenya evolve through another stage of learning and design in Poland.

The student projects from Poland were then brought back to Nairobi and presented using VR headsets, allowing the young participants to experience their visions in a new dimension. The next phase of the project involved further collaboration with the children, who worked in groups to refine their designs, negotiating solutions that would benefit a larger number of users. Through this iterative process, the workshops not only foster creativity but also encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and an inclusive approach to urban space.
