Deciphering Dimensions: CAPHE Artists Explore Photogrammetry during Workshops in Athens

On Monday, 20th November, 2023, the erudite Researchers, practitioners, and professionals in the CAPHE Consortium, presently engaged in an enriching mobility program in Athens, Greece, partook in an intellectually stimulating workshop on Photogrammetry. Photogrammetry provides the foundational real-world data that enhances the realism and accuracy of virtual and augmented realities, thereby expanding the capabilities and applications of these immersive technologies. This scholarly workshop was adeptly facilitated by João Costa, an illustrious PhD candidate from the University of Lisbon in Portugal.

The participants delved into the intricate processes of image capture, followed by the meticulous task of processing these captured images utilizing highly specialized and sophisticated software. This phase set the foundation for the subsequent and more complex segment of the workshop.

Advancing further, the participants were meticulously guided through the avant-garde process of constructing digital 3D models of a diverse array of objects. This segment underscored the transformative power of photogrammetry in bridging the gap between the physical and digital realms.

Concluding this academically enriching session, the facilitator expounded upon the multifaceted applications of photogrammetry across various domains, particularly emphasizing its pivotal role in scenarios demanding precision measurements. This aspect highlighted the utility of photogrammetry in environments where traditional methods of physical measurement are either impracticable or lack the requisite accuracy.
